AgoraCart is a powerful online shopping / e-commerce solution that offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features that allows online stores to be setup in simple fashion for the beginner, yet it offers high power ecommerce, flexibility, and modular features that an experienced programmer or web designer will appreciate after seeing AgoraCart's full potential. AgoraCart is available for free as an Open Source based e-commerce solution released under the GNU General Public License. In addition, powerful modules and script add-ons are available to those who support the AgoraCart project by purchasing "Members Only" memberships.
Originally targeting highly experienced webmasters and programmers, it has since matured to a solution that is easier to setup for beginners, powerful enough for experienced programmers, modular for flexibilty, and one that is currently powering thousands live shops around the world.
The AgoraCart Project was started in 1999 then followed by the first public release (version 3.0a) in February 2000. This project originally started with Steve Kneizys' code redesign of the shopping cart ( agora.cgi version 3.0 ) based on Web_Store from Selena Sol (http://www.extropia.com) and Commerce.cgi developed by Carey Internet (http://careyinternet.com). "MisterEd" took over marketing and memberships in February of 2001 and few months afterwards AgoraCart was included in the popular web hosting control panel: CPanel. In July of 2002, K-Factor Technologies, Inc and "Mister Ed" took over as the developer of the AgoraCart project, immediately releasing the very successful 4.0K series that enhanced ease of use, and made inroads into the beginner markets yet maintaining the flexibility and power web designers and programmers demand.
As of late 2004, a new and second platform is emerging in AgoraSQL which is based on a mySQL database for larger stores and is well underway in it's development.
The success of AgoraCart is secured by a great and active community where members help one another out and participate in development issues affecting the current state of the project.
You are more than welcome to contribute to the success of AgoraCart by participating in the forums, by contributing code improvements/hacks/cart layouts/graphics, by purchasing a "Members Only" membership, by donating to the team members, by becoming an ASPP (service providers only), by advertising in AgoraCart areas, or just by spreading the word! |
