Basic First Steps Tutorial

Starting Moves - Main AgoraCart Store Settings

Tutorial by Hugh Blair - hotfootmail.com

The Store Manager.
Once your login and password have been changed, you will need to access your Store Manager to set up the store configuration for your webspace. You do this through your web browser by accessing :

http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/store/protected/manager.cgi

And will be presented with a screen requiring a login and password. Use the login and password (case sensitive) that you just created in the above step and you will have full access to your Store Manager.

Your first step should be to protect this directory with the ".htaccess" file. At the top of the Menu you'll see "htaccess protect the /protected directory where this program is running." Click on this link and enter a "username" and "password" at the bottom of this screen. You can make these the same as you used for you Manager area or make them different. Just don't forget these or you won't be able to manage your store.

Your next step should be to configure your store area. Choose Program Settings from the menu and then choose the Main AgoraCart Store Settings button.

Please select your Primary Payment Gateway:
Choose the Payment Gateway you plan on using. Use "Offline" and "zOffline" if you plan on processing credit card payements yourself, not 'live' on the Internet. If you're not sure which one to use or haven't decided on one, then just choose one of the Offline options. This can always be changed later.
Allow Multiple Gateways?
Set this to "No" unless you are ready to use multiple payment gateways.

Skp the section about affiliate programs. You can come back to this later.

Please enter the full URL of your /images directory.
The default is "html/images" and if you plan on letting AgoraCart 'serve' your images as needed, then leave this as-is and also make sure Do you want to self-serve the images? is set to "Yes." If you want access to your picture files and they are not accessable under /cgi-bin or the default directory AgoraCart uses, then change the path and set Do you want..." to "No." Read "self-serve" as letting AgoraCart serve the images through it's "picserve" function. If, for example, you put your image files under /images in the root of your server, then change the path to /images and set" Do you want..." to "No."

Please enter the full URL of your store here.
AgoraCart usually will try to guess where the front page of your store resides, but it's up to you to make sure that this is correct. If you're using "agora.cgi" as your starting point, then put in URL like this:
http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi
Don't forget to include the "www" part. To properly set cookies, which are needed by your shoppers, AgoraCart needs this included.
SSL URL
If you're using a secure certificate, put enter the SSL URL here. If not, leave this blank.

Do you wish to have the orders written to a log file?
If you also want the order information written to a log file, enter the file name and answer "Yes" to this question.
