Intern, Volunteer & Job Openings at AgoraCart

Like many Open Source Projects, we survive on help from the community, including those seeking to fullfil internships for college, volunteers looking for a real project to gain practical experience for their resume, and those that just feel the joy in helping others. Though we are a small project, we have great need for help, so if you would like to volunteer or have us validate an intership, please browse the categories below. Some positions have compensation, while others will be validated as real job and/or intern experience.

Business & Community Relations:

Live Store Site Manager

  • Maintain free listings database for the "Live Stores" section of AgoraCart.com.
  • Validate and/or edit new listings. (validate that website uses and/or promotes AgoraCart).
  • Delete sites that no longer use nor support AgoraCart
  • 2-3 hours per week tops in most cases.
  • Make recommendations for design changes for that portion of the site
  • Promote use of "live Stores" site in community forums by highlighting stores using AgoraCart and reminding new cart users to add their web listing
  • Internship or Volunteer with very small monthly stipend with free webhosting from PropellerHeadHosting.com


Community Relations Director

  • Maintain AgoraCart Public Forums.
  • Oversee Community Wiki (aka manuals and documentation)
  • Oversee and recruit moderators for public forums
  • Oversee and recruit wiki/guide/doc writers and managers
  • Oversee and recruit template and web designers for the AgoraCart project
  • Moderate public forums and wiki.
  • Answer questions in forums, if able to
  • Oversee the conversion of knowlegde within forums and actual cart experience to manuals/wiki with help of writers and other moderators.
  • Maintain FAQ pages.
  • 12-16 hours per week.
  • Internship or Volunteer with small monthly stipend with free webhosting from PropellerHeadHosting.com. Could work into salaried position for qualified and self-motivated person
  • High profile postion which allows yo to market your services to others, in addition ot the joy of helping others.


Forum Moderator

  • Moderate posts public forums.
  • Use AgoraCart, even if a demo install.
  • Answer questions of other users based on personal experience with AgoraCart
  • 4-12 hours per week, at your pace
  • Comes with Kudos and lots of prestige in the AgoraCart community
  • Internship or Volunteer with free webhosting from PropellerHeadHosting.com.


New User Helping Hand (Mentor)

  • Mentor assigned users on how to setup, design, manage their stores.
  • Use email, forums, IM to mentor assigned user(s) for 2 week cycles.
  • Answer questions of these users based on personal experience with AgoraCart
  • 2-12 hours per week, at your pace and dependent upon how many users sign up for your mentoring expertise.
  • Comes with Kudos and lots of prestige in the AgoraCart community
  • $50 per user for a two week mentoring cycle.


Marketing & Advertising:

AgoraCart Marketing Director & Branding Manager

  • Market AgoraCart to the following target markets: public, hosting companies, and graphic designers.
  • Develop, immprove, and coordinate onsite marketing, affilate programs, reseller programs, customized products and services for the AgoraCart and AgoraCart Gold brands.
  • Find and place free advertising mediums with applicable target reach.
  • Create blogs, RSS feeds, newsletters and new releases.
  • Maintain relations with resellers, marketing affiliates, and others that promote AgoraCart within their own services.
  • Acquire Official Sponsors.
  • Acquire Payment Gateway and Add-on Module Sponsors from users, supporters or other companies.
  • Rally financial support for Bug Bounties from AgoraCart users or companies (aka development funding).
  • 10-20 hours per week, as needed
  • Comes with Kudos and lots of prestige in the AgoraCart community
  • Internship or Part-time Only. Could work into full-time salaried position for qualified and self-motivated person
  • Performance Pay: 15% commissions on sponsorships and services personally "sold", plus a 3% bonus of all net monthly Gold Membership sales.


Graphic/Web Design:

Official Template Designer

  • Design official templates for AgoraCart.
  • Create store template designs based on interests or themes of choice.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • 2-12 hours per week, as needed
  • Internship or Volunteer. Could work into salaried position for qualified and self-motivated person
  • Excellent way to build a substantial portfolio or gain experience for real ecommerce design use, or show off and/or market your talents.
  • (Note: Design Credits will belong to Designer, but Copyrights belong to the owners of AgoraCart project.)


AgoraCart.com Web Designer

  • Create images and graphics for AgoraCart.com.
  • Must be self-motivated and find need from browsing site and then design it.
  • Devote as much or as little time as you wish
  • Internship or Volunteer. Could work into salaried position for qualified and self-motivated person
  • Excellent way to build a substantial portfolio or gain experience for real ecommerce design use, or show off and/or market your talents.

Programming & Web Development:

AgoraCart Developer - Perl Programmer

  • Help to improve the Perl code in entire AgoraCart project
  • Develop Payment Gateway modules.
  • Develop Shipping Modules.
  • Develop Add-on modules for order management, data export, page building, logistics, analytics, etc.
  • Contribute/code at your pace in areas that interest you. Must be able to find needs and then develop and/or improve the cart code.
  • Must be self motivated, trustworthy, work with project leaders, and able to use SVN
  • 5-12 hours per week, or at your pace.
  • Internship or Volunteer with free webhosting from PropellerHeadHosting.com. Could work into salaried position for qualified and self-motivated persons
  • Comes with Kudos and lots of prestige in the AgoraCart community
  • Excellent way to build a substantial code portfolio, gain experience for real ecommerce web development, or show off and/or market your talents.


Official Contributing Developer

  • Contribute/code at your pace in areas that interest you. Must be able to find needs and then develop and/or improve the cart code.
  • Must be self motivated, trustworthy, work with project leaders, and able to use SVN
  • Devote as much or as little time as you wish
  • Volunteer. Could work into paid position for qualified and self-motivated persons

  • Edit and create pages/posts/guides/documentation in wiki project.
  • Use AgoraCart, even if a demo install.
  • Create and edit how-to pages and guides based on experience with AgoraCart.
  • Conversion of knowlegde within forums and from actual cart experience to manulas/wiki.
  • 4-12 hours per week, at your pace
  • Comes with Kudos and lots of prestige in the AgoraCart community

  • Answer questions in forums on a weekly basis, if able to
  • Contribute posts and guides to wiki/documentation.

  • Excellent way to gain experience for real ecommerce development and/or market your services.


AgoraNaut Evangelist

  • Promote AgoraCart because you believe other merchants can benefir from it's use.
  • Promote Gold Version memberships in public (free) forums when appropriate.
  • Answer questions in forums on a weekly basis, if able to
  • Contribute posts and guides to wiki/documentation.
